Time-Warner virtual channel table for San Diego

For many cable television subscribers, the cable box is an expensive annoyance. Cable providers charge a rental fee for it, it takes up space in your home, and it requires yet another remote. But cable users who don't want interactive features and who don't subscribe to pay channels can avoid the trouble of a cable box by just hooking their cable directly to a cable-ready TV.

The only problem with skipping the cable box is that tuning to the station you are looking for becomes more complicated. The cable box translates the QAM channel number of a station into the virtual channel number that is used in TV listings. In San Diego, for example, the high-def signal from the local PBS station known as Channel 11 (KPBS) is sent out on Time-Warner's QAM channel 15.1, and if you want to watch KPBS in high-def without a cable box you need to know this.

Time-Warner Cable will not tell you their virtual channel table. The customer service agents will politely tell you that that information is not available.

Well, now it is available. Here.

Below is the Time-Warner San Diego's virtual channel table, sorted by QAM channel. This table was accurate for the cable entering my house in Rancho Peñasquitos as of late March 2010. Time-Warner can change the table any time they want, so what I have listed here may not be up-to-date; it's also possible that the table varies from neighborhood to neighborhood. But at least this may help out a bit.

I've also made companion tables, sorted by Time-Warner's channel number and sorted by station name.
